The IRB is supported by individuals, families, institutions and foundations that share its mission to advance biomedically relevant research. Besides competitive and public funding, contributions by the Helmut Horten Foundation, the Leonardo Foundation, the Gustav & Ruth Jacob Foundation and by other donors are essential to enable the research and teaching activities of the IRB.

For over 50 years, the Helmut Horten Foundation has promoted healthcare in Switzerland, in particular through donations to medical research centres. It was founded in 1971 by Helmut Horten.
The Gustav & Ruth Jacob Foundation was founded in 2001 with the aim of promoting, in Switzerland and abroad, scientific research aimed at combating human diseases, as well as the education and training of young researchers.
