Bellinzona – June 02 2025 – Professor Petr Cejka and Professor Laurence Zitvogel are the two distinguished academics to receive the 2024 Prize from the San Salvatore Foundation in Lugano, founded in 1979 by Carlo Pernsch – an award given to outstanding figures engaged in scientific research against cancer.
Each laureate received 50,000 Swiss francs, testifying to the value and impact of their work in the field of biomedicine.
Petr Cejka, professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana and Group Leader at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona, has focused his scientific work on the analysis of the molecular mechanisms involved in the repair of DNA double-strand breaks. This process is vital for the preservation of genomic integrity, the understanding of which is crucial for the prevention and treatment of cancer pathologies.
The award ceremony was held on Saturday, 24 May, at the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola in Lugano, with the presence of numerous personalities from the scientific and institutional world.
