The 4th edition of the ITID (Immunotherapy for Infectious Diseases) Conference successfully took place in Bellinzona, Switzerland, from October 1 to 3, 2025, at BIOS+ (Via Francesco Chiesa 5). The event, organized with the support of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), an Istitute affiliated to Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), brought together leading international scientists, representatives from the biotech industry, and regulatory and academic institutions from around the world.
During the scientific sessions, internationally renowned speakers such as Rino Rappuoli and Sergio Abrignani took the floor to illustrate the challenges and innovations in the field of immunotherapy. Other prominent speakers included Félix A. Rey, with his studies on the structure of viruses, Alberto Mantovani, known for his research on innate immunity and inflammation, and Fabio Bagnoli, who presented the results of his research on monoclonal antibodies against bacterial pathogens. The contributions of Antonio Lanzavecchia and Davide Corti were also highly appreciated; thanks to their previous work at IRB, they have contributed to important achievements and discoveries, from the laboratory bench to the treatment of patients with Ebola and Covid.
The conference was an important opportunity for multidisciplinary discussion and dialogue, promoting the sharing of scientific results and the launch of new collaborations between research centres and pharmaceutical companies.
Bellinzona thus confirms its status as a centre of excellence for biomedical research in the Canton of Ticino, increasingly attractive for international scientific initiatives in the field of immunotherapy and infectious diseases.
The IRB, in its organisational capacity, took care of all logistical and hospitality aspects, contributing to the success of the event and the promotion of the Ticino region. Several participants stayed in Bellinzona beyond the duration of the conference, demonstrating their appreciation for the city and the Canton.
