Recent years have generated considerable demand for information and interaction between Science and society. In this sense, the open day organized in the new Bios+ building in Bellinzona by IRB, IOR and the EOC Laboratories allowed to foster dialogue between the world of Science and the public.
On Saturday, October 8, the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) and the Laboratories for Translational Research of the EOC opened the doors of their laboratories for the second time this year. There was a large participation for this day organized with the support of the City of Bellinzona and Banca Stato.
On a day filled with enthusiasm and curiosity, there were more than 1,000 participants. Teenagers and adults were able to visit the laboratories and discover the work of the researchers. The many children and teens present, on the other hand, were able to browse through test tubes, cells and microscopes. Finally, researchers were able to understand the relevance of the Research carried out under the city castles.
The Bios+ building, opened in November 2021, aims to make Bellinzona a nationally and internationally recognized Life Sciences Research Center. Today, the building owned by the IRB Foundation is home to three Institutes – the IRB, the IOR, both affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), and the Laboratories of the EOC – with more than 250 collaborators from more than 37 countries.
