Every year, a three days-long student retreat is organized outside the IRB headquarter to give the IRB students the opportunity to present an abstract, a poster and/or to give a seminar about their research project and results. This brain storming session is always co-organized by some of the IRB Group Leaders together with IRB students. Usually, three selected international experts in the research areas of the IRB are also invited to attend and give a seminar.
This year, the IRB annual Student Retreat took place on May 15-17 in Engelberg. It was co-organized by Prof. Marcus Thelen and three PhD students: Simone Becattini, Julia Noack and Luca Piccoli. Prof. Nico Callewaert from the University of Ghent (Belgium), Prof. Mikael Karlsson from the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and Dr. Dietmar Zehn from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) (Switzerland) were the three selected international experts and guest speakers to attend the retreat.
For the first time this year, the IRB introduced the IRB Student Award to reward student participation, exceptional efforts and improvements during the IRB PhD program and journal club series. The Awardees were selected by Dr. Silvia Monticelli, Coordinator of the PhD Program. This year, during the IRB annual student retreat, the IRB students Silvia Preite and Simone Becattini were awarded for their outstanding work during the 2012-2013 PhD Program Lecture Course.
The IRB wishes to congratulate Silvia and Simone for their achievements.
The actual award was created and hand-made by Mrs. Bea Pasteris.
