Dr. Melania Osto, Animal welfare officer and designated veterinarian at the Research Insitute in Biomedicine (Istituto di Ricerca in Biomedicina) in Bellinzona, affiliated to the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and at the University of Zurich has been elected new member of the Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology (ECNH) for the period 2024-2027. The ECNH is an extraparlamentarian committee, composed by experts of ethics from outside the federal administration and from different fields (philosophy, theology, biology, medicine and law). It advises the Federal Council and the authorities on legislation and enforcement in the field of non-human biotechnology and gene technology from an ethical point of view.
