The 2013 Avrion Mitchison Prize 2013 has been awarded this year to Dirk Baumjohann for his research published in the highly ranked journal Immunity with the title “Persistent antigen and germinal center B cells sustain T follicular helper cell responses and phenotype”. The prize is sponsored by the Ernst Schering Foundation and is given to young scientists from German-speaking countries in recognition of their excellent scientific work in the field of rheumatology.
The research for which Dirk Baumjohann has been awarded the Avrion Mitchison Prize was part of his PhD work performed in the laboratory of Federica Sallusto at the IRB. After obtaining the PhD from the University of Bern in 2010, Dirk went to the University of California San Francisco to perform his postdoc in the laboratory of Mark Ansel, where he is successfully continuing his scientific career.
The Avrion Mitchison Prize will be handed over during the Award ceremony, which will take place on December 3, 2013, at the German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ) in Berlin.
The IRB congratulates Dirk for this achievement.
