Prof. Federica Sallusto, Director of the Center of Medical Immunology and Head of the Cellular Immunology Laboratory at IRB Institute for Research in Biomedicine (USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at Bellinzona) has been appointed Full Professor of Medical Immunology at the Department of Biology at ETH Zurich, starting from February 1, 2017. On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Prof. Sallusto gave her Introductory Lecture at the ETH. Her professorship was made possible by generous donations from the Helmut Horten Foundation. Thanks to the continuation of this partnership for the Zurich-Bellinzona immunology hub, ETH Zurich can further expand its international top position.
Prof. Sallusto is an internationally renowned scientist, conducting research at the IRB since 2000. Her work and research results have significantly contributed to the understanding of human immunology. Recently, she and her team have succeeded in developing a novel method for studying human T cells with defined characteristics for vaccination studies or in pathological clinical situations (e.g., autoimmune disorders).
Prof. Federica Sallusto will be setting up a new laboratory at ETH Zurich, introducing also human immunology into teaching.
ETH Zurich and IRB congratulate Prof. Federica Sallusto for her appointment and wish her all the best in her new endeavors.
