In June 2014, Thomson Reuters has generated a list of 3’215 Highly Cited Researchers in 21 different areas of science based on the top 1% ranking publications from 2002 to 2012, earning them the mark of exceptional impact. The immunologists Antonio Lanzavecchia and Federica Sallusto working at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Università della Svizzera italiana, have been named among the 65 Swiss Researchers and the 87 Immunologists worldwide. This recognition testifies the exceptional impact of their discoveries in the scientific community.

Antonio Lanzavecchia, professor of human immunology at ETH Zurich, is a pioneer in the study of the human immune system. His recent work on the antibody response to viruses has contributed conceptual and technological advances. Federica Sallusto has made seminal contributions to dendritic cell biology and formulated key concepts for T cell differentiation and immunological memory.
Antonio Lanzavecchia and Federica Sallusto were already listed among the Highly Cited Researchers in 2001. The excellence of their research has been recognized by the award of two ERC Advanced Grants from the European Research Council.
