As previously announced, the 2017 Robert Koch Award was jointly attributed with prize money of 120,000 euros, to Professors Antonio Lanzavecchia, Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Università della Svizzera italiana, Bellinzona, and Rafi Ahmed, Emory University and Emory Vaccine Center, Atlanta, USA.

The Robert Koch Award is one of the most prestigious scientific awards in Germany. It is awarded annually to scientists for their outstanding and internationally recognized achievements. Robert Koch award winners enjoy high international acclaim, undoubtedly because, since 1975, eleven prizewinners have subsequently been awarded a Nobel Prize.
This year the award recognizes the two immunologists’ pioneering research on regulation of immune system and their groundbreaking contributions on the development of new vaccines and immunotherapies.
The award ceremony took place on November 3, 2017 at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, in Berlin, Germany.
