The 2017 Cloëtta Prize was jointly awarded to Professors Markus G. Manz (University Hospital Zurich) and Denis Jabaudon (Neurocenter Geneva).
The Professor Dr. Max Cloëtta Foundation (http://www.cloetta-foundation.ch/en/) aims at supporting and promoting medical research as well as related disciplines of natural sciences in Switzerland. The Foundation annually awards a Prize to honour personalities in Switzerland and abroad who have distinguished themselves in a particular way in certain fields of medical research.
Markus Manz is honoured as a basic researcher and clinician for his outstanding achievements in the fields of immunology, haematology, oncology and microbiology. He was the first to show the development of the dendritic cells of the immune system from the blood stem cells. In addition, he has developed a unique method to investigate the development and function of the human immune system. This method is now worldwide used. Part of this work was performed at the IRB, as Markus Manz was a Group Leader from 2006 to 2009.
The award ceremony took place at the University Hospital Zurich on November 3, 2017.
