During the annual IRB Student Retreat, which took place on April 6 – 8 in Engelberg, Viola Puddinu (Signal Transduction Lab) and Timothy Bergmann (Protein Folding and Quality Control Lab) were announced as the grantees of the fourth IRB student award. This award is meant to acknowledge the students\u2019 participation, effort and improvements during the IRB PhD program and journal club series. The Awardees were selected by Dr. Silvia Monticelli, Coordinator of the PhD Program, with the help of other Group Leaders and senior scientists at IRB.<\/p>\n

\"\"The annual three days-long student retreat, organized outside the IRB headquarters, gives the IRB students the opportunity to present an abstract, a poster and\/or to give a seminar about their research project and results. It was co-organized by Prof. Marcus Thelen and three PhD students: Cristina Leoni, Yagmur Farsakoglu and Tobias Wolf.<\/p>\n

Prof. Lukas Jeker (Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, CH), Dr. Stefano Biffo (Molecular Histology and Cell Growth, National Institute of Molecular Genetic (INGM), Milan, IT) and Prof. Wolfgang Kastenm\u00fcller (University of Bonn, DE) were the international experts in the research areas of the IRB who attended the 2016 retreat and gave a seminar. This year, the student retreat also hosted a special guest, Chrisman Abbott, MFA (University of Zurich) who organized a workshop on presentation skills.<\/p>\n

The IRB wishes to congratulate Viola and Tim for their achievements.<\/p>\n
