class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>Attualmente 13 gruppi di ricerca occupano due strutture a Bellinzona, impiegando\u00a0<span lang=\"IT-CH\">oltre\u00a0<\/span>125 persone. In 20 anni sono stati pubblicati pi\u00f9 di\u00a0<span lang=\"IT-CH\">8<\/span>00 articoli su importanti riviste accademiche. L\u2019IRB ha inoltre ospitato sinora 5 progetti dell\u2019European Research Council (ERC).<\/p><p>Un dinamico programma di dottorato (PhD) presso l\u2019IRB consente agli studenti iscritti nelle universit\u00e0 di tutto il mondo di svolgere la loro tesi in uno dei gruppi di ricerca dell\u2019IRB. Il programma comprende anche una serie di conferenze tenute da scienziati di fama mondiale. Oltre 1<span lang=\"IT-CH\">1<\/span>0 studenti IRB hanno difeso con successo la loro tesi e ottenuto posizioni eccellenti nelle principali istituzioni di tutto il mondo.<\/p><p>Dal 20<span lang=\"IT-CH\">10<\/span>\u00a0l\u2019IRB \u00e8 affiliato all\u2019Universit\u00e0 della Svizzera italiana (USI) e fa ora parte della neonata Facolt\u00e0 di Scienze Biomediche, che nel 2020 ha istituito un Master in Medicina.<\/p><p>La crescita costante delle attivit\u00e0 di ricerca ha visto l\u2019IRB espandersi in altri edifici nel centro di Bellinzona. Quattro gruppi \u00a0indipendenti iniziarono le loro attivit\u00e0 di ricerca nel Palazzo Fabrizia, ai piedi del Castelgrande.<\/p><p>Per 20 anni l\u2019Istituto \u00e8 stato guidato dal Prof. Antonio Lanzavecchia, Direttore fondatore dell\u2019IRB. I contributi di Lanzavecchia all\u2019immunologia umana includono scoperte fondamentali sulla presentazione dell\u2019antigene, la memoria immunologica e gli anticorpi monoclonali umani. I suoi successi sono stati riconosciuti da diversi premi (1988 Medaglia d\u2019oro EMBO, 1999 Cloetta Prize, 2017 Robert Koch Prize, 2017 Sanofi-Institut Pasteur Award, 2018 Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine) ed elezione ad accademie scientifiche (EMBO, Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, US National Academy of Sciences). I metodi per isolare gli anticorpi monoclonali umani sviluppati nel suo laboratorio presso l\u2019IRB sono stati concessi in licenza a Humabs, una societ\u00e0 svizzera che sviluppa terapie anticorpali e che ora \u00e8 una filiale di Vir Biotechnology. Alcuni degli anticorpi monoclonali umani scoperti all\u2019IRB sono in fase di sviluppo per terapie contro importanti malattie infettive, come l\u2019Ebola.<\/p><p>L\u2019IRB \u00e8 membro fondatore dello <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swissvaccineresearchinstitute.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swiss Vaccine Research Institute (SVRI)<\/a><\/span> e della <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclavo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Sclavo Vaccine Association (SVA)<\/u><\/a>. Lo SVRI comprende il Politecnico federale di Losanna (EPFL), il Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, il Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois e l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Losanna, mentre l\u2019SVA coinvolge 12 istituzioni in 6 Paesi. Nel 2009 l\u2019IRB ha firmato un memorandum di intesa con il Politecnico di Zurigo (ETHZ) e nel 2010 \u00e8 stato affiliato all\u2019Universit\u00e0 della Svizzera italiana (USI). All\u2019USI, l\u2019IRB ha contribuito all\u2019istituzione della Facolt\u00e0 di Scienze Biomediche e alla creazione del programma PhD (scuola di dottorato) in Immunologia e Biologia Cellulare. Nel 2021, l\u2019IRB ha aderito alla <a href=\"https:\/\/cerid.uw.edu\/uwarn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">United World Antiviral Research Network (UWARN)<\/span><\/a>, l\u2019organizzazione che riunisce i ricercatori delle principali istituzioni di diversi Paesi del mondo per individuare e affrontare i virus pandemici emergenti.<\/p><p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"568\">Gli accordi di collaborazione sono stati inoltre stabiliti con il National Institute of Molecular Genetics (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ingm.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">INGM<\/a><\/span>, 2013) e con Humanitas University (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hunimed.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HU<\/a><\/span>, 2019), entrambi a Milano. Nel 2021, l\u2019IRB \u00e8 entrato a far parte dello United World Antiviral Research Network (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/creid-network.org\/research-centers\/uwarn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UWARN<\/a><\/span>), un\u2019organizzazione che riunisce ricercatori di istituzioni leader in diversi Paesi del mondo per individuare e affrontare virus pandemici emergenti. Nel 2023 \u00e8 stata avviata una partnership con la Rockefeller University di New York (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockefeller.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RU<\/a><\/span>) per promuovere lo sviluppo di studi sulle malattie infettive.<\/p><p data-start=\"570\" data-end=\"909\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Nel 2021, l\u2019Istituto si \u00e8 trasferito nella nuova sede di Bellinzona (di propriet\u00e0 della Fondazione IRB), dotata di laboratori moderni e infrastrutture tecnologiche aggiornate. class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>Ticinese di origine, Davide Robbiani ha ottenuto il dottorato in medicina presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Berna, in Svizzera, nel 2000 ed ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in Immunologia presso la Cornell University di New York, nel 2005. Durante gli studi di medicina, \u00e8 stato ricercatore presso l\u2019Istituto Theodor Kocher sotto la guida di Marco Baggiolini e alla Rockefeller University nel laboratorio di Ralph Steinman. Robbiani \u00e8 tornato alla Rockefeller nel 2005 per iniziare la sua formazione post-dottorato nel laboratorio di Michel Nussenzweig, dove ha continuato come membro della facolt\u00e0 dal 2009 al 2020.\u00a0<\/p><p>La ricerca di Robbiani si concentra su due aree dell\u2019immunologia umana: l\u2019investigazione delle origini dei danni al DNA alla base dello sviluppo dei tumori del sistema immunitario e la risposta immunitaria ai patogeni emergenti, con enfasi su flavivirus e coronavirus. Robbiani \u00e8 entrato a far parte dell\u2019IRB nel 2020, succedendo al direttore fondatore dell\u2019Istituto, Antonio Lanzavecchia. All\u2019IRB Davide Robbiani \u00e8 a capo del <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/irb.usi.ch\/it\/immunology-and-infectious-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laboratorio di Immunologia e Malattie Infettive<\/a><\/span> ed \u00e8 professore nella Facolt\u00e0 di Scienze Biomediche dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 della Svizzera italiana
